Grand Lodge Of Utah
Utah Pythian History

UTAH'S  FIRST  SESSIONS

It wasn't an easy task for our Domain's "Founding Fathers". Remember on March 27, 1884  was still "The Wild West", men still carried guns on their hips, rode on horseback and watched for Indian raids. It was still a wild land.

On the morning of March 27, 1884, the Grand Lodge of Utah was Instituted by DSC George F. Prescott of Myrtle Lodge #1. Thomas C. Armstrong of Myrtle Lodge #1 and Fred W. Hayt of Park Lodge #4 were elected Past Grand Chancellors.

A ball was held that first night at the Lodge Hall that lasted into the night.

Our first Grand Constitution and Statues along with our Grand Lodge Seal were adopted on the third day of the Convention on March 29, 1884.

We still have the first five Subordinate Lodge reports given at that Convention. If you ever want to read this fabulous history please contact our Grand Secretary.

On that day of March so long ago, our Pythian Brothers started our Grand Lodge. How many at that first Convention thought it would last this long ? Many great Pythians worked hard to build this Grand Lodge. Now to keep it strong the Pythians of today are working hard to continue the strength of our "Founding Fathers".
